It wasn’t until we recently spent an afternoon Downtown with family that we realized that it was free to park at the Metro parking lots on weekends. Even more of a surprise, it only cost $2 one way, per person to ride the Metro subway train…no matter where you’re going! My Hubby and I couldn’t believe it. We said we would make use of this while we could and a couple weekends later, found ourselves back Downtown for another day of sightseeing and hand-holding. This time, we were lucky enough to tickets to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, thanks to an amazing co-worker! It was so much fun hanging out Downtown, a bit nostalgic at times even though so much has changed.
I honestly looked forward to riding the Metro again because it meant that neither of us would have to drive. We also didn’t have to look /pay for parking. We pulled off our relaxing and balmy day coming in at only $8 round trip! From what I remember, the cost of riding the Metro was constantly going up, so to see this way of giving back, I’m impressed. OUR HAT’S ARE FLYING OFF TO YOU WMATA! We’re so excited and looking forward to having more inexpensive Saturday afternoon dates now. This is a quiet kept secret that we didn’t know about. I’m not sure if a lot of couples in the DC, MD, VA tri-city area know about it either, so I thought I’d mention it. Here’s a link to the Metro System Map and their Trip Planner. I sure hope you’re taking advantage of it and having lots of inexpensive dates via Metro as well!
There are a lot of fun destinations you can visit off the Metro. We just decided to go back to the Smithsonian stop this time because there is a lot of eye candy in one general location, capable of suiting a broad variety of interests. I literally saw a hip-hop festival going on and on the other side of the street, a photographer was taking pics of a small wedding group he had assembled and posed, it’s crazy! LOL. Just goes to show, even us natives can enjoy feeling like tourists sometimes!
I’ll be adding all the photos and video clips from our visit to the National Museum of African American History and Culture soon. I’m just about finished assembling them, but in the meantime, I wanted to test out a new 360 degree feature that I’m hoping will be a lot more fun and interactive. (This post was updated on 9/14/22 to include all photos. By the way, how are you liking the 360 degree photos?)
Here is another. Check them out and drag them around. It’d be great if you’d leave me a comment, I’m curious to know what you think.
